Sheila Joyner-Pritchard


Bio

        Sheila Joyner-Pritchard, MSW, ICPS is Co-Founder of Village Keepers, Inc., a family prevention resource center started 16 years ago. She holds both a Bachelor’s Degree (BSW) from Central State University and a Master’s Degree (BSW) from the University of Connecticut’s School of Social Work with concentration in Clinical Social Work. Ms. Joyner-Pritchard enhanced her expertise with further post graduate advanced clinical social work training through the Yale Child Study Center at Yale School of Medicine.  She is a previously licensed social worker (LCSW) with pending approval for re-licensure exam. She is an Internationally Certified Prevention Specialist (ICPS) through Prevention Credentialing Consortium of Georgia (PCCG) with membership on the PCCG Board of Directors and its Continuing Education Committee. She is also a recent appointment to the Region 3 Planning Board of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) representing Fulton County.

        Ms. Joyner-Pritchard has also been active with the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) and the North American Association of Christians in Social Work (NACSW), both social work membership organizations.  During her graduate school education she was Vice President of the Student Chapter of the University of Connecticut’s School of Social Work and received an NABSW scholarship to help finance her graduate education. She is also founding President of the New Haven, CT Chapter of NABSW, a former National Co-Chair of its Child Welfare Committee and a former NABSW National Steering Committee Representative. In NACSW, she was most recently a member of the NACSW 2013 National Conference Planning Team and has been a frequent workshop presenter at NACSW Conferences around the United States. She is an Ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church USA and was Director of Children’s Ministries at a local PCUSA Congregation for 15 years.

        Ms. Joyner-Pritchard recently joined Save Our Society’s Pre-Trial Intervention, Inc. as a Consultant with classes in Anger Management, Life Skills, Self-Empowerment and most recently Parenting Skills, and Theft and Crime Prevention. Her extensive experience in the field of social work and human services has included work in the following concentrations: clinical/treatment (mental health), group work, community/capacity building, social work education, public policy, child and family, child welfare (child protective services, foster care and adoption), evidence-based programs and curriculums, college prep, educational support, medical social work, grantsmanship/resource development, environmental strategies and research. She has worked in public and private sectors, nonprofits (large and small), grassroots community/neighborhood settings as well as in faith-based settings. She has also been involved in a number of community-based coalitions. She is the proud birth parent of 1 and surrogate parent of 2.
